“We work to make the lives of people more beautiful by creating unique sensorial experiences […]” says Le Labo (French: "the laboratory").
Born in the French Riviera [in Grasse], the capital of perfumery, Le Labo was raised in NYC, the city where Fabrice Penot and Edouard Roschi opened their first lab on Elizabeth Street in New York's Nolita neighborhood, back in 2006. During the past few year the brand increasingly developed and is now owned by Esteé Lauder.
Today, each and every fragrance is freshly hand-blended in one of their standalone boutiques around the world. Once purchased, fragrances are compounded and each label is personalized with the client's name printed on the label of the boxes and the perfume bottles.
Its manifesto states that "the future of luxury [hence of perfumery] lies in craftsmanship" and includes a line from Hafiz and mentions of Wabi-Sabi and Henry David Thoreau.
Le Labo produces 17 fragrances and 13 City Exclusive scents which are available only at specific locations. They also retail a diverse of ambient room scents, body, hair and face products. The formulations do not include paraben, preservatives or coloration, and are not tested on animals. All products are vegan.
In September 2019, Le Labo will release two new City Exclusive scents: the "deeply aromatic tobacco absolute” TABAC 28 (Miami) and the "schizophrenic perfume” BIGARADE 18 (Hong Kong).
