spring/summer no. 26

With the continued support of the #MeToo movement, Spring/Summer runways dedicated themselves to fashion that liberates and empowers women. This season there was truly something for every type of style, body and voice. From the highly androgynous designs of Henrik Vibskov and Vivienne Westwood - who’s collection this year was also environmentally conscious. To the tailored tuxedos of Celine, each designer showcased the versatility of fashion and its ability to adapt and support an identity. With the utilitarian designs of Alexander Wang and Chanel’s introduction of shorts, we see the inspiration and the support to express ourselves fully. Be it elegant, flowing fabrics from Jacquemus or the injection of vivid neon into many pieces from Off-White, this year’s Spring/Summer collection from any designer is a tribute to all walks of life. Palomo’s inspiration for his collection came from the story of a traveller returning from their trip full of inspiration and insight. The combination of textures and materials with various shapes and forms illustrates how the sharing of culture and community can result in the most incredible creations. With that, this year’s runways also exemplified, that now more than ever, we need to nurture and celebrate these events that bridge the gap between genders, race and cultures rather than building walls that divide and isolate us.
