ODE À LA NATURE
*Sam Baron Presents Dior Maison

written Amanda Mortenson

Dior Maison returns to Salone del Mobile 2025 with a new collection designed by Sam Baron. Ode à la nature introduces a series of handcrafted glass objects that focus on form, material, and historic continuity.

The presentation aligns with the fair’s 2025 theme “Materia Natura,” which addresses the intersection of material culture and environmental attention. The collection includes vases, carafes, candlesticks, and dishes, all produced using Italian mouth-blown glass. Transparent surfaces reveal botanical motifs—branches, leaves, wheat—applied with precision and restraint.

DIOR unveils three exceptional vases of the "ODE À LA NATURE" collection, dreamed up by Sam Baron

Each piece rests on a solid base. The silhouettes follow soft curves. The surface treatment, defined by a striated finish, reflects light and highlights the structure of the object. The design references the amphora of the original Miss Dior bottle from 1947 and draws on the archive’s historic elements, including a duck-shaped carafe.
The objects are produced through collaboration with Italian artisans. The glassblowing process brings slight variations in shape and density, making each work unique. The absence of superfluous detail leaves space for material and line. Presented in Milan among international contributions to contemporary design, the collection establishes a clear position for Dior Maison.

Attention is placed on craftsmanship, clarity of form, and respect for origin. Sam Baron’s direction follows an established aesthetic while proposing a new rhythm through proportion and composition.

Ode à la nature becomes part of Dior’s ongoing dialogue with domestic culture and seasonal materiality. Stay tuned.

The bett1 BODYGUARD® Experience
*From Box to Bed in 8 Minutes

written MARK ASHKINS

Eight minutes. One gesture. Sleep begins. Sleep has form. It has volume, resistance, softness. And with BODYGUARD® by bett1, it now carries structure.

Engineered precision, wrapped in textile logic—this mattress activates in eight minutes. No acclimation. No waiting. Just unfold, breathe, lie down. BODYGUARD® arrives fully resolved. A mattress with an uncompromising core made of QXSchaum®—bett1’s proprietary foam, constructed for equilibrium. It performs with method. Breathable, intelligent, anatomically exact. There is clarity in its duality. One side firm, the other yielding. Flip according to tension and instinct. The decision rests with the body, not marketing.

The textile cover unzips fully and moves into the washing machine. It exits clean, dries rapidly, and reconnects with ease. Materials maintain structure through every cycle. The system supports hygiene and routine with clarity and speed.

Precision at the Surface
BODYGUARD® is the result of deliberate engineering, made in Germany. Its internal structure supports spinal alignment, distributes pressure evenly across the body, and maintains airflow through a network of foam chambers designed for thermal balance and anatomical function.

The edges remain firm and structurally sound, offering the same level of support whether pressure is applied centrally or peripherally, while the entire surface adapts intuitively to shifts in weight and movement. This mattress holds its form with quiet integrity, night after night.

From Compression to Clarity in 8 Minutes
Unboxing BODYGUARD® is a transition from vacuum-sealed silence to immediate readiness, unfolding quickly into its complete, designed state. The act feels ceremonial yet efficient—a measured gesture that reflects the same sense of control and calm the mattress brings into the bedroom. Each line expands to its intended volume, each seam settles into place, transforming a technical process into a moment of architectural clarity.

SS25: A Visual Architecture of Rest
bett1’s Spring/Summer 2025 campaign unfolds across Athens and the cliffs of Hydra—photographed by Lottermann & Fuentes with editorial precision. Mattress as object. Mattress as sculpture. Among raw surfaces, Mediterranean light, and structures inhabited by artists, the visuals establish a new grammar for sleep. The campaign expands the bett1 system: BODYGUARD®, jersey fitted sheets, flannel and satin bedding, side-sleeper pillows, and modular toppers—a cohesive language of rest built from purpose and material logic.

Beyond the Mattress: A Cohesive Sleep Framework
bett1’s product universe extends well beyond the core mattress, offering a suite of elements that reinforce its commitment to thoughtful design and intelligent materiality. The jersey fitted sheets embrace the mattress with tailored elasticity, while the satin and flannel bedding sets offer nuanced textures that respond to season, skin, and atmosphere. Side-sleeper pillows are sculpted for alignment, guiding posture through the night, and the modular toppers integrate seamlessly to refine firmness or add plush volume where needed. Each object is conceived with equal intent—as an essential part of a functional, modern sleep system. Together, they form an interconnected structure that elevates rest from ritual to composition.

The BODYGUARD® mattress carries presence without spectacle. Its form is built from requirements. Sleep functions as a system. This mattress fulfills its role with precision. No flourish. No sentiment. Only design. The performance emerges through accuracy. It enters the room as a completed idea. The mattress unfolds with speed, adapts with duality, and sustains with resilience. The cover invites renewal. The design extends across a full ecosystem of sleep objects.

*Modern Lighting Icons

written MONICA DE LUNA

Lighting influences space, atmosphere, and our perception of design. Louis Poulsen has a long history of working with renowned designers to create fixtures that are both practical and poetic.

The VL45 Radiohus series by Vilhelm Lauritzen reflects modernist principles, emphasizing both function and aesthetics. With the VL45 Radiohus Pendant introduced in new colorways and the launch of the VL45 Radiohus Portable Lamp, Louis Poulsen builds on its tradition of exceptional lighting design.

A Classic Reinvented: VL45 Radiohus Pendant

Originally designed in the 1930s for the Danish Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio House (Radiohuset), the VL45 Radiohus Pendant has endured as a symbol of refined simplicity. Characterized by its multi-layered mouth-blown opal glass and untreated brass detailing, the pendant offers direct and diffused lighting, balancing functionality with soft, ambient warmth. Its ability to provide glare-free light while enhancing the spatial experience has made it a favorite in interiors for decades.

In 2025, Louis Poulsen introduces two new hues—Pale Yellow and Amber— alongside the existing Opal White and Pale Rose. These tones subtly shift in appearance depending on whether the light is on or off, offering a dynamic interplay of color and luminosity. This reinvention expands its versatility, making it an even more compelling choice for contemporary living spaces.

Lauritzen, a pioneer of Danish functionalism, designed the Radiohus Pendant to serve as a thoughtfully crafted source of illumination. He understood light as an architectural element, shaping spaces through brightness and shadow. The VL45 Radiohus Pendant embodies this philosophy, emphasizing clarity and balance in its design.

Portability Meets Elegance: VL45 Radiohus Portable Lamp

Louis Poulsen has crafted the VL45 Radiohus Portable Lamp, a refined, mobile interpretation that brings the same luxurious light experience in a new, adaptable form.

Retaining the signature opal glass shade and brass details of the pendant version, the portable iteration introduces a leather strap for ease of movement, allowing the lamp to be carried effortlessly from one space to another. Whether placed on a windowsill, hung from a balcony hook, or nestled within a cozy interior corner, it transforms its surroundings with soft, glare-free illumination.

With IP44-rated rain resistance, the portable lamp is also suitable for outdoor use, making it an elegant companion for spring and summer evenings on the terrace or illuminating a garden gathering. Functionality is further enhanced by a dimmable LED unit, offering adjustable brightness through intuitive touch controls. A replaceable battery ensures that this piece of design history continues to shine for years to come.

The Man Behind the Light: Vilhelm Lauritzen

Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984) played a significant role in Danish modernist architecture. Guided by the “form follows function” philosophy, he approached architecture and lighting design with equal attention, ensuring that light was an integral part of spatial experience. His portfolio includes notable projects such as Copenhagen’s first airport terminal and the Radiohuset, both of which reflect his dedication to functionality and aesthetics.

A firm believer that “there is no life without aesthetics,” Lauritzen’s approach to lighting was deeply architectural. He designed fixtures that balanced direct illumination with a soft, diffused glow, ensuring that spaces were both well-lit and inviting. His VL45 Radiohus designs—whether pendant or portable—carry this legacy forward, showing how thoughtful lighting enhances interiors.

Louis Poulsen: A Legacy of Light

Since its founding in 1874, Louis Poulsen has been synonymous with high-quality Danish lighting design. The brand’s commitment to craftsmanship, quality materials, and innovation has positioned it as a global leader in architectural and decorative lighting. Working with luminaries like Poul Henningsen, Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, and Vilhelm Lauritzen, the company has shaped the way we experience light, from homes and workspaces to public institutions. With showrooms in Copenhagen, Oslo, Miami, Singapore, and New York, Louis Poulsen continues to expand its presence, bringing Danish lighting traditions to a global audience. The reintroduction of the VL45 Radiohus Pendant in new colors and the launch of the Portable Lamp reinforce its dedication to advancing lighting design.

The VL45 Radiohus Pendant and Portable Lamp bring historical integrity and aesthetic refinement. Designed to complement various interiors, they enhance modern spaces with refined lighting. Whether placed over a dining table or moved from room to room, these lamps contribute to a carefully curated atmosphere and a harmonious spatial experience. One principle remains central: great lighting enhances great interiors. With Louis Poulsen’s VL45 Radiohus series, illumination reaches new dimensions, enriching spaces with thoughtful design and craftsmanship.

Stedge Shelf by Leonard Aldenhoff

WOUD, a Danish design house with an instinct for minimalism, brings its philosophy to life in every detail of Stedge. The shelf is a manifestation of clarity, an embodiment of purpose. Thin steel cords hold slender oak shelves in place, creating a structure that evokes both strength and lightness. The interplay of wood and metal reveals a design that speaks to balance and precision.

The creation of Stedge traces back to Leonard Aldenhoff, a German designer known for his focus on technical mechanics and clean aesthetics. Originally conceived as a university project titled Stab Im Brett, Stedge emerged from an early exploration of storage concepts. The design found its identity within WOUD’s collection, where it took shape as a refined expression of Aldenhoff’s vision. The evolution from concept to finished product reflects a commitment to craft and innovation.

WOUD places emphasis on materiality and functionality, ensuring Stedge fulfills its role without excess. Its modular nature invites customization, offering the flexibility to expand or adapt its configuration. The oak shelves, available in finishes such as light oak and smoked oak, complement a range of interior styles. The result is a design that adapts while maintaining its distinct character.

Each element of Stedge is deliberate, from its intuitive installation to its focus on user experience. WOUD imbues the piece with a sense of permanence, designed to integrate seamlessly into its surroundings. The design creates a sense of focus, a visual rhythm that transforms the wall into a curated display of objects.

*600 Ways to Glow

written Monica de Luna

Rewind to 1966. Gino Sarfatti’s Model 600 lamp broke rules and boundaries, proving that lighting could flex, adapt, and surprise.

Now, Bottega Veneta, Italy’s high priest of leather luxe, has partnered with Flos to breathe new life into Sarfatti’s icon. The result? A lamp that fuses sculptural statement with timeless vision.

Gino Sarfatti, born in Venice in 1912, had a talent for twisting conventional ideas into something organic, fluid, and unapologetically modern. The Model 600 embodied this ethos with its soft, lead-shot leather base that reshaped the idea of rigidity in design. The same year saw Bottega Veneta experimenting with leather techniques that would define its legacy.

In the latest reinterpretation, Bottega Veneta transforms the Model 600 into a tactile masterpiece. Sarfatti’s smooth leather base now flaunts the unmistakable Intrecciato weave—a textured signature that defines Bottega’s craft. Another iteration, the Intreccio Foulard, amplifies the design’s visual dynamism while maintaining its core identity.

With advanced LED technology, the lamp balances the iconic bulb silhouette with contemporary functionality. The light flows seamlessly between direct and indirect, adapting to the angle of its reflector. Whether placed on a floor or table, it commands the space with a magnetic presence.

Color choices add personality to the design. Black and grey offer understated elegance, while red and emerald green (our most favorite) bring a sense of indulgence. Then there’s that green—the unmistakable Bottega Veneta hue that turns heads. Available in two sizes, the Model 600 redefines how a design piece integrates into modern living.

This collaboration shows how two icons—one in avant-garde lighting, the other in craftsmanship—combine to create something transcendent. It is a dialogue between decades, a modern heirloom with presence and vision.

*A Minimalist Icon

written Monica de Luna

There’s something timeless about the simplicity of form, a quiet elegance that speaks louder than any grand gesture. STOFF Nagel, the Danish design brand that reimagined an icon, understands this balance intimately. Its candle holders demand attention and they command it with effortless grace, reminiscent of an era when minimalism met the sculptural allure of modern design.

Born from the vision of Hans Nagel and the artistic prowess of Werner Stoff, the candle holder is a canvas for personal expression. Introduced in the 1960s, it reflects the architectural and artistic impulses of its time—stackable, modular, and entirely customizable.

The STOFF Nagel Candle Holder / Best in 2024

The candle holder’s DNA is steeped in history. Hans Nagel, a creative mind with a deep-rooted connection to his family’s craft, found inspiration in the most unexpected of places: a ski trip gone slightly awry. After a fall in the snow, Nagel’s fingers left three distinct holes. Those shapes—simple, geometric, and inherently human—would serve as the basis for the design he would later develop with Werner Stoff. The result? A candle holder that marries organic form with stark precision, a reflection of the mid-century fascination with space-age aesthetics and post-war design innovation.

The candle holders can be endlessly reconfigured—stacked into towering sculptures or spread across a dining table in a minimalist arrangement. It’s this flexibility that resonates with the creative individual, the one who sees beauty not in static perfection but in fluidity, in the ability to reshape the world around them.

The brand’s success is rooted in its refusal to compromise on craftsmanship. Each piece is carefully made, a nod to the original designs by Werner Stoff, whose eye for detail and love for rounded forms continue to influence the collection. Whether cast in chromed metal, brass, or the more recent bronzed finishes, each iteration feels like a rediscovery of something familiar yet fresh.

In the fast-paced world of design, where trends are as fleeting as the seasons, STOFF Nagel stands firm as a symbol of enduring elegance. It’s no wonder the editorial team of LE MILE Magazine selected STOFF Nagel as the Best Candle Holder of 2024. The brand offers an experience—a chance to sculpt light and shadow, to engage with history, and to participate in a narrative that spans decades.

*The Sideboard That’s Shaking Up Minimalist Norms

When we talk about furniture that blends art with functionality, it’s rare to encounter pieces that truly stand out. This year, LE MILE Magazine has selected Pastform Furniture as our Brand of the Year 2024 in the "Best Sideboard" category, and it’s not just because of their striking design language.

The Libra Sideboard, in particular, represents everything we admire in furniture: a balance between innovative design, sustainable craftsmanship, and minimalist allure.

The LIBRA Sideboard / A Design for Living

Originating from Poland, Pastform has carved out a distinct identity within the contemporary furniture scene. While they might not shout with grand gestures, their subtle, thought-provoking designs resonate louder than any ostentatious display. The essence of their work lies in their craftsmanship — a commitment to producing furniture that feels like an extension of modern architecture, with each piece thoughtfully executed to create a sense of place and personality.

What sets Pastform apart is its unique ability to blend tradition with modernism. Their designs are deeply rooted in Polish craftsmanship, yet they don’t feel stuck in time. Instead, they move forward, pulling elements of past eras and reimagining them for the contemporary eye. It’s a balance of opposites, which is why the name Libra feels so fitting for their award-winning sideboard.

At first glance, the Libra Sideboard commands attention without demanding it. Its minimalist silhouette is clean, functional, and undeniably chic. But, like all good design, the deeper you look, the more you uncover. Pastform’s Libra embraces a thoughtful symmetry — its proportions, materials, and lines all speak to an effortless balance, echoing the astrological symbol it’s named after.

Constructed with a combination of rich wood tones and an elegant matte finish, the Libra feels like the ultimate marriage between nature and precision. The surface is smooth, tactile, and inviting, while the wood’s natural grain is carefully highlighted, reminding us that true luxury often lies in the details.

The Libra is also about practicality, versatility, and adaptability. The sideboard offers a spacious interior with ample storage, making it a standout in living rooms but also in more intimate settings like a hallway or bedroom. Its multi-functionality aligns with the brand’s ethos of blending art with utility, meaning you don’t have to choose between beauty and practicality.

Selecting a Brand of the Year is no easy feat for the editorial team at LE MILE, but Libra made the choice effortless. What struck us most was how this sideboard bridges the gap between artistry and everyday use. The Libra Sideboard is a modernist’s dream — functional, striking, and deeply rooted in timeless design principles. But what makes it even more special to us is its accessibility. While the craftsmanship and materials are of the highest caliber, Pastform ensures that this piece remains available to those who appreciate good design without needing to break the bank.

In a world of mass production, Pastform’s dedication to local craftsmanship and sustainability shines through. The brand is focused on ensuring their practices respect the environment. Each piece, including the Libra, is crafted with sustainability in mind, using locally sourced materials and responsible production methods. This aligns perfectly with the evolving consciousness of today’s consumer, where aesthetics and ethics must go hand in hand.

Pastform crafts pieces that push the boundaries of minimalist design, fusing tradition with a daring modern aesthetic. The Libra Sideboard stands as an evolving masterpiece, shaping the future of how we experience space and design. Enjoy Yourself!

Thonet S 64 Dark Melange
Herkner Meets Breuer

written Amanda Mortenson

The S 64 chair by Marcel Breuer, an icon of modernist design since its inception in the late 1920s, gets a stunning new look in Thonet’s "Rethinking Classics: S 64 DARK MELANGE" collection.

This reimagining transforms Breuer’s classic into a piece that speaks to contemporary tastes while honoring its storied past.

Breuer’s S 64 is celebrated for its seamless fusion of form and function, combining a chromed steel frame with a wooden seat and backrest in woven cane. The original design’s appeal lies in its minimalist aesthetic and the elegant contrast between materials. The new S 64 DARK MELANGE by Sebastian Herkner edition enhances this interplay with a sophisticated dark woven cane, adding depth and a modern twist to Breuer´s timeless design.

The DARK MELANGE collection brings a fresh, versatile aesthetic to the S 64, perfect for a variety of interiors. The dark woven cane, with its rich spectrum of blacks, browns, and natural hues, is achieved through a meticulous natural dyeing process. Each piece of cane exhibits subtle variations in color, highlighting its unique, artisanal quality, emphasizing the natural beauty of the material.

The reimagined S 64 fits effortlessly into diverse settings—from sleek office spaces to cozy home environments. Its dark woven cane offers a contemporary edge that complements the chair’s classic form, making it a standout piece in any space. Beyond aesthetics, the material’s high lightfastness, durability, and abrasion resistance ensure that the S 64 DARK MELANGE is as functional as it is aesthetic.

Thonet’s collaboration with young designer Jan Christian Schulz was crucial in developing the DARK MELANGE cane. Together, they explored various dyeing techniques and material properties to achieve the perfect balance of color and durability. This rigorous process ensures that the new cane meets the highest standards of quality, maintaining the integrity and elegance of Breuer’s original design. The DARK MELANGE collection features five distinctive wood stain colors—Black, Chestnut, Amber, Rosewood, and Sage—each paired with a matching powder-coated frame. These colors highlight the natural grain of the wood, creating a rich, textured look that pairs beautifully with the dark cane. The powder-coated frames, a departure from the original chromed steel, add warmth and a more inviting feel to the S 64, enhancing its appeal in private and public spaces.

Born out of Marcel Breuer's visionary genius in 1929/30, the S 64 Cantilever Chair redefined the very essence of seating. A vanguard of the Bauhaus movement, Breuer shattered norms with a design that married minimalist aesthetics with practical utility. The chair's groundbreaking cantilevered structure was not just a deviation from the norm but a bold foray into modernist innovation.

The S 64 Cantilever Chair distinguishes itself through a harmonious blend of form and function. Breuer's design philosophy centered on the essential attributes of a chair: comfort, stability, and sophistication. The chair's chromed steel frame forms a graceful arc, challenging gravity with its illusion of weightlessness. The seat and backrest, crafted from premium materials like leather or cane, offer a soothing juxtaposition of textures, enveloping the user in a luxurious embrace.

The S 64 Chair's long-standing reputation is a testament not only to its design but also to the superior craftsmanship it embodies. Each chair is a manifestation of meticulous detailing, where the pursuit of quality drives every aspect. The precision in the steel's curvature and the artistry in the cane weaving position the S 64 as both a functional item and an artistic masterpiece.

LE MILE's choice of the S 64 Cantilever Chair as the Chair of the Year 2024 goes beyond celebrating its design and historical significance. This selection is an acknowledgment of the chair's ability to surpass temporal and stylistic boundaries. It celebrates a creation that resonates with today's design sensibilities, striking a perfect harmony between innovation and tradition.

Crowning the S 64 Cantilever Chair as 2024's icon, we celebrate not just its storied past but the future it continues to inspire. In this chair, we see the potential of design as a conduit for innovation, comfort, and aesthetic joy. The collection, a brainchild of a collaboration between MAGAZIN and some of the most forward-thinking designers of our time, challenges the norms of traditional furniture.

Drawing inspiration from the robust and unyielding aesthetics of maritime containers, the Container DS series is a bold statement in both form and function. This innovative series isn't just about storage; it's about redefining spaces, be it the coziness of a living room or the formality of an office setting. Each piece is a canvas, waiting to be adorned with personal touches, from elegant porcelain to eclectic office supplies.

Each piece is a meticulous blend of design and utility, echoing the textures of folded steel and the sleekness of modern architecture. The doors of the containers, designed with a precision that borders on the obsessive, seamlessly integrate into the unit, embodying a philosophy where design isn't just seen but felt.

The collection's versatility is showcased through its diverse range of models. The classic Container DS resonates with a timeless elegance, a chameleon adapting to and enhancing its surroundings. The flat version reimagines spatial utility, offering a sleek, expansive surface. The Container DS Klein, with its slender silhouette, introduces an element of sophistication, perfect for more intimate spaces. MOEBE's Ceramic Table Lamp and Tube Pendant

written Sarah Arendts

In the pulsating heart of Copenhagen, on the serene island of Amager, lies a workshop where creation meets purpose, and design meets sustainability.

This is the home of MOEBE, a design studio formed in 2014 by architects Martin de Neergard Christensen, Nicholas Oldroyd, and cabinet maker Anders Thams. Their overarching philosophy? Simple, but profound: consciously made furniture and lifestyle objects with great details, designed to last a lifetime.

In today's age of fleeting fashion and planned obsolescence, MOEBE stands as a beacon of hope. Their mantra emphasizes on the need for 'less'. Less noise, less clutter, and certainly less waste. They believe in creating room to breathe and cherishing the small everyday moments that render meaning to our lives. Their designs are a celebration of this philosophy, stripped of all that's unnecessary, embodying pure functionality, purpose, and a keen sense of aesthetics.

We turn our attention to two of their recent creations that exemplify this ethos: the Ceramic Table Lamp and the Tube Pendant.

Ceramic Table Lamp — A Symphony of Porcelain & Light

At first glance, the Ceramic Table Lamp might seem like just another lamp, but dig deeper, and you'll realize its genius. Unlike traditional lampshades that offer limited adjustability, MOEBE’s version comes with a completely separate porcelain piece. This unique design grants the user full flexibility — pivot up, down, left, or right, shining light precisely where it's needed.

Each lamp is a masterpiece, handcrafted in Portugal. The raw, unglazed ceramic is infused with colour pigment right into the porcelain, ensuring that no two lamps are the same. But what truly stands out about this lamp is its modular design. In line with MOEBE's 'Right to repair' principle, the lamp is component-based. So, if a part malfunctions, simply replace it without discarding the entire product.

Its aesthetic beauty, combined with its functional versatility, makes the Ceramic Table Lamp not just a lighting solution, but a sculptural adornment for your space.

Tube Pendant — The Alchemy of Aluminium & Paper

MOEBE's Tube Pendant is a revelation in lighting design. Crafted from a robust aluminium tube, it's internally lined with a simple translucent paper. This ingenious combination allows users to control the lamp’s aura. Adjust the top for upward light diffusion or extend the paper to cast a warm, soft glow around the edges.

MOEBE recognizes that light is the soul of a space. The Tube Pendant, available in two sizes and four colours, captures this essence, allowing homeowners and designers to elevate the ambiance of any room.

MOEBE is not just a brand; it's a movement. It's an invitation to embrace simplicity, quality, and sustainability. In their hands, raw materials transform into functional art pieces, and spaces come alive with purpose and beauty.
