Why The Gucci Borsetto Starts With A Wordplay

 

The Gucci Borsetto begins with a small linguistic move. Borsa folds into morsetto, placing the bag and the Horsebit inside the same word. It is direct, almost blunt in its clarity, and very Gucci in the way it turns a house code into something worn close to the body.

The form follows that idea with an elongated handle, a detachable strap and a soft body shaped around the Horsebit, a symbol that entered Gucci’s visual language through its equestrian references in the late 1940s. Here, it gives the bag its point of recognition without weighing down the silhouette.
